St Louis Free Activities

We couldn't begin to count all the reasons our real estate agents love to call St. Louis home. But one thing we especially appreciate about the Gateway City is that it's an amazing place to explore on a budget. From historic architecture and iconic landmarks to spectacular parks and museums, you'll find no shortage of free things to do in St. Louis.

  1. Gateway Arch - St. Louis, MO 63102
It won't cost you a dime to gaze at our city's most instantly recognizable attraction. Built in the 1960s, the iconic Gateway Arch commemorates St. Louis's role as the gateway to westward expansion during the 19th century and stands as an architectural marvel as well as a beloved monument. The 630-foot-tall curved stainless steel monument is part of Gateway Arch National Park, including a free museum and beautiful green space overlooking the Mississippi River. If you'd like to take the tram to the top, there will be a slight admission fee.

  2. Forest Park - 5595 Grand Dr., St. Louis, MO 63112
To say that Forest Park is big would be doing it a disservice. The park spans 1,326 acres, about 500 more than New York's Central Park. With ponds, lakes, and streams, open meadows, shady woods, and manicured gardens, it's the best place in St. Louis to experience the tranquility of nature. One of the park's most famous attractions is the pavilion dating back to the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. Forest Park is also home to the St. Louis Art Museum, which is open to the public free of charge. The park is located in Western St. Louis, just minutes from many St. Louis homes for sale

  3. St. Louis Science Center - 5050 Oakland Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110
Originally founded as a planetarium in 1963, the St. Louis Science Center is one of America's great free museums. You can still visit the planetarium, of course, but the science center also offers more than 700 hands-on exhibits and displays. You can see prehistoric dinosaur bones, explore the vastness of space, and learn more about everything from plants and animals to skyscrapers and the weather.

  4. Soulard Farmers Market - 730 Carroll St., St. Louis, MO 63104
The Soulard Farmers Market has the distinction of being the oldest public market in St. Louis, and some claim it to be the oldest market in the U.S. west of the Mississippi. It's been going strong since 1779, and this vast indoor and outdoor space is the best place in town to find fresh and unique foods, not only from local farmers but from all around the world. If you're looking for more free things to do in the Soulard neighborhood, the nearby Anheuser-Busch Brewery, just a mile away, offers free tours.

  5. St. Louis Zoo - 1 Government Dr., St. Louis, MO 63110
The St. Louis Zoo has earned a reputation as one of America's best zoos, and admission is always free. The zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and provides a home for 13,000 animals of more than 500 species. Aside from being an incredible free attraction, one thing that really makes this zoo stand out is its reputation as a leader in animal management, research, conservation, and education.
